BPI is the leading independent, non-for-profit, developer of technical standards for home energy efficiency performance and weatherization retrofit work that are recognized across North America. From these standards, they have developed training programs, professional credentialing for individuals and company accreditations – including quality assurance programs – that help raise the bar in home performance contracting.

A BPI Building Analyst is on of only two nationally recognized energy auditor standards. A BPI Building Analyst is certified to conduct blower-door tests (which should be done both before and after upgrades), combustion appliance inspection and repair, air quality testing including carbon monoxide detection, duct testing and airflow testing. A BPI Building Analyst needs to re-certify every three years, either by re-taking the exams or by completing continuing education from a BPI affiliate. While many contractors seeking BPI certification already have extensive experience in the building industry, our intensive week of BPI training is a perfect introduction to home energy efficiency and weatherization for anyone at any skill level.

A BPI Building Analyst certification will bring you new business for years to come! There is currently and there will continue to be huge demand for residential energy audits and weatherization retrofit work. However, many of the individuals bidding on these jobs are not certified to do this work. As one of only two nationally recognized energy auditor standards, the value of being a BPI Certified Professional is therefore enormous. It will give you credibility when bidding on contracts and help you get an edge of other contractors who are not certified by a nationally recognized organization. In addition, on many projects it will be a requirement to have some sort of nationally recognized certification, like BPI, in order to get work. As a BPI Building Analyst you will gain an understanding of the relationship between all the systems in the house and its effect on occupant health, safety and comfort, energy efficiency and durability.

A certified BPI Building Analyst energy auditor has passed both a written and field exam given by BPI. The two-hour, 100-question, written exam requires a passing score of at least 70% while the two-hour field exam requires demonstrated competency with the energy audit process and equipment.

BPI does not mandate formal training prior to the exams, but a classroom or online course is highly recommended. BPI certification courses usually involve close to one week of full-time training. While many contractors seeking BPI certification already have extensive experience in the building industry, our intensive week of BPI training is a perfect introduction to home energy efficiency and weatherization for anyone at any skill level. It will also help you pass the exam!

No! Anyone can become BPI Certified. While no formal experience is necessary to participate in most examinations, we strongly recommend you seek appropriate training (which we offer) and have some experience in the building performance industry.

Course costs include the Fee for Webinar of Six Sessions, which includes 14 hours of live online instruction, and Everblue BPI course materials and practice questions. The fee for the online training webinar does NOT include: One Day of Field Training ($300), the 2 hour BPI Certification written exam ($250), and a 2 hour BPI Certification field exam ($350). You must pass both the written and the field exams to earn your BPI Certification. BPI written and field exam fees.

This course is delivered over the Internet. You must have a high-speed Internet connection. There are six sessions delivered online. Each week is a new session. All training is recorded, so if you miss a session, you can enjoy the lesson at another time. The BPI Webinar replaces the classroom based portion of our BPI Certification Program. After the webinar, you will still need to complete a day of field training, a 2 hour written exam, and a 2 hour field exam.

On day one of the BPI Certification course you are registered for, the instructor will distribute the field exam time-slot assignments. The field exam is a two-hour, one-on-one exam proctored by the instructor on Day 4 or 5. If you have a scheduling conflict, please see your instructor on day one. We will do our best to accommodate. Under certain circumstances, instructors can schedule field exams at a later date. Should you need to cancel or change your field test time slot, we will make reasonable attempts to accommodate you but we make no guarantee nor will we provide compensation in the event that we cannot accommodate you.

During the course, we will demonstrate and train you to use the following tools involved in Building Analyst certification: automatic blower doors, static pressure test kits, combustion analyzers, and gas leak detectors.

If after taking our course you do not pass either the written or field exam, we will work with you to retest the appropriate portion. You will be responsible, however, for the BPI exam fee: $250 for the written exam and $400 for the field exam.

Should you need to cancel your registration in this program, we will be happy to process a full refund of the registration fee provided we receive notice two weeks in advance of the course. Cancellations received less than two weeks prior to the course start date will receive a refund minus a $200 cancellation fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received within 3 business days of the course start date or for those who fail to attend the course. Field tests are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Should you need to cancel or change your field test time slot, we will make reasonable attempts to accommodate you but we make no guarantee nor will provide compensation in the event that we cannot accommodate you.

Should you be unable to attend the program, you may substitute another individual or transfer your registration to a future offering of this course, provided space is available. If your request to transfer is received within 3 business days of the course start date, there will be a late transfer charge of $50.
