Pat asks: I am getting ready to take my LEED GA exam shortly. Ive been studying for about 3 weeks now.
My employer has a current project involving possible LEED certification. But not definite. If i pass the LEED GA test. what does that mean to my employer. Am i certified to run a LEED project or does the firm need a LEED AP or LEED consultant to run this current project. The reason i am asking is my employer is pressuring me and could possibly be telling a client incorrect information about what a LEED GA can and cant do after passing the test.
Answer: Hi Pat, thank you for your question.
Congrats on going for the LEED GA credential! By passing the exam, a LEED Green Associate has demonstrated that she has the important foundational, core knowledge of green building and LEED.
The LEED Green Associate curriculum is meant to provide this important introductory foundation for future professional growth within a green field of work, it also provides a good starting point for people who wish to become LEED Accredited Professionals after they work on a LEED registered project.
However, the LEED GA credential does not enable a LEED Green Associate to oversee a LEED Certification project. While a LEED GA may work on a LEED registered project, the job of overseeing a LEED certification is appropriately meant for a LEED AP.
Good luck on your LEED GA exam!
