Hi Amol,

IGBC suggests reading the following material to prepare for the IGBC AP exam:

- IGBC Homes Detailed Reference Guide
- IGBC Factory Building Rating Abridged reference guide
- Background material of green building training programme conducted by IGBC
- LEED India NC detailed reference guide
- LEED India CS detailed reference guide

These are available for purchase at IGBC's website or abbreviated versions of this material may be downloaded here.

An IGBC Practice Exam is available here.

LEED AP and Green Associate

In the United States the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) requires individuals seeking to earn the LEED AP credential to also take the LEED Green Associate (Tier I) exam.

There are still five different LEED AP specialty exams:

Operations & Maintenance

Homes

Building Design & Construction

Interior Design & Construction

Neighborhood Development

As you may already know, candidates must have experience in the form of documented professional experience on a LEED Registered Project, within the last 3 years, with verification through LEED Online or employer attestation.

There are many different study approaches, but be sure to include reading the appropriate USGBC Reference Guide cover to cover.

Once you've gotten comfortable with the reference guide material, we recommend taking LEED practice tests until you're passing the exams with a comfortable margin (getting at least 80%-85% correct on a regular basis).

Regarding IGBC test

I believe the IGBC AP is similar to LEED GA, but has some specific differences for India, just like LEED Canada NC has. Apart from the IGBC site, which is still developing, the only site to offer LEED India IGBC practice exams is GreenExcel - www.greenexcelinc.com that I could find. They are more focused on international LEED tests. Let us know of any information you can find, as I have a bunch of Indian colleagues interested as well.

Regarding LEED exams

Hi,
I am interested in taking the USGBC LEED Green Associate exam. I have recently completed a postgraduate course in Sustainable Architecture and read on the USGBC website that this could qualify me to take the LEED Green Associate exam without the need for taking a preparation course. I am based in UK at the moment and also went through the UKGBC website. However, there seems to be no exam procedures for the UKGBC and all I could find was paying exhorbitant money and getting a membership and paying more money every year to renew membership. Can I take the USGBC Green Associate exam in the UK? Do they have test locations in the UK or is there any way I can take that exam from outside the USA?
Since, in the future I plan to practice as an architect in India, I was going through the IGBC website and procedures for taking the LEED AP exam. In India, it seems like as of now there is just one single LEED AP exam as opposed to 2 exams in the USA (Green Associate and then any one of the five AP specialisations). Is there an option of taking the USGBC LEED exams from India or is it like if I am taking an exam in India, it has to be the IGBC LEED AP exam? Is the ISGBC LEED AP accreditation an equivalent for USGBC LEED AP, I mean in terms of professional accreditation/qualification?
Basically, I am stuck between the two countries and am presently at a place where I cannot decide which one to go for and do I have to be in that specific country to give the exam?
Your suggestion in this regard will be very helpful. Look forward to hear from you soon.

RE: IGBC exam

Akhil,

In order to take the LEED AP exam you are required to have experience working on a LEED project. Once you have this experience, you can register at GBCI.org to take the exam. You may want to take the LEED Green Associate exam first, however.
