Sharief asks:I'm interested in taking the LEED Green Associate exam as soon as possible. I'm considering getting the LEED Green Associate Platinum Pack from this website, however, I'm unclear as to whether that's enough for me to pass the exam? There are a couple of other publications that seem relevant to this exam on the USGBC website that are not included in the Platinum pack, those are:

Green Associate Study Guide
Green Building & LEED Core Concepts Guide

Do you still recommend that I purchase either or both of the above publications or will the Platinum Pack suffice? Are there any other books that you deem necessary for a successful preparation for the exam?

Answer: Hi Sharief, thanks for your question. The Platinum Pack is a very popular product. We recommend this bundle and it definitely includes enough to pass the LEED Green Associate exam.

However, many people choose (and we also recommend) to buy the LEED Green Associate study guide from the USGBC as well. Just as it's important to read and study (memorize) the appropriate LEED AP Reference Guide from the USGBC when studying for one of the LEED AP specialty exams, it's important to read and study the USGBC's material on the LEED Green Associate credential. Frankly, a lot of this material will be consistent and repetitive, but packaged differently. In my opinion a good study approach is to expose yourself to as much of the material in as many media types/methods and environments as possible to maximize retention.

I can speak from experience that, in working to memorize all of the material for the LEED AP exam, exposing myself to as many different study tools as possible (study guides, audio files, flash cards, study groups, USGBC Reference Guide, online training, exam simulators, etc.) was a good approach. While it may be enough for some to use one method of preparation, such as reading, I believe using various media types was helpful in achieving a 190 out of 200 (95%) on the LEED AP exam.
