Kevin asks: Hello Folks, I am interested in taking the test for LEED GA. I'm curious about the test procedures and have a few questions I hope you can help me with:
1). How often is the test available to take?
2). Is it given at a designated sight or can this be taken on line?
3). Cost?
4). Open book or not?
5). Is it mult. choice? Subjective written answers or a combination?
6). In addition to receiving a grade, will we also be able to review our test to see what we got right and what we got wrong in order to see where our strengths and weaknesses are?
Thank you!
Answer: Hi Kevin, thank you for your questions... I'll answer them in order.
1) The LEED Green Associate exam is available on a daily/weekly basis throughout the United States and Internationally as well, depending on demand.
2) The exams are administered through a 3rd party testing organization called Prometric. They are given at their secure testing centers all over the world. The USGBC and GBCI are interested in spreading green building best practices and standards on a global basis. The LEED exams are available via Prometric from Miami to the Middle East.
3) The LEED Green Associate exam application fee is $50.00, the exam fee (per exam appointment) is $150 for USGBC National Members and full-time students and $200 for all others. Additionally, there is a Credential Maintenance renewal fee of $50.00 every two years.
4) Closed book. No materials may be brought with you to the testing center, except a sheet of paper which you may use to take notes and do a "core dump" before you take the exam. This is a strategy that a lot of test takers suggest people use when taking exams where a ton of memorization is required. Once you get into the exam area, you may use your pencil and paper to write down whatever it is you want to remember during the exam.
5) The questions are all multiple choice. There is no writing involved. There may be some basic math that has to be done.
6) Yes, you will receive a score immediately after taking the exam and you will know which areas you scored well in and which you did not. This is helpful in improving if for some reason you do not pass or did poorly on a particular section.
Good luck!
