Blue Pollution: Should I be Concerned About LED Lighting?

Bhavesh asks: There are lots of myths and facts about usage of LED Lighting for Functional requirement . We care already using LED for common area, pantry , Back of House etc. What is the expert's opinion in this regards ? Is any guideline from IESNA particularly on Blue pollution / Hazard etc ??

Bhavesh, thank you for an interesting question.

To the best of my knowledge, Blue Pollution is a very limited area for concern and based on your areas of use thus far, I don’t think you have much to worry about.

Blue pollution results from blue and cool white LEDs emission of a blue light hazard that maybe unsafe to human eyes. Scientists recommend not using certain LED’s near astronomical observatories, I don’t get the feeling you are doing anything of the sort.

All in all I don’t think you have anything to worry about with regards to your use of LED’s.

My personal opinion is still that LED’s are the best energy efficient lighting solution on the market and as with any emerging product which has experienced tremendous success there are bound to be an equal amount of criticism.

I use a lot LED technology for lightning because it seems more protective with the environment, but i have to admit that sometimes i feel my eyes a little tired by it..
