Recycled Paper Insulation: Sustainable Products from Old Newsprint?

Question:

Rob asks: Currently I am involved in a study project, in which I try to find new applications of 100% recycled paper in the building industry. For this reason I'm soliciting for help of experts. I'm looking for trends, where paper substitutes for other materials like in insulations etc. and i'm looking for materials where they use kraft paper which can be replaced by 100% recycled paper.

Hi Rob, this is an interesting question, although some parts are unclear so please feel free to follow up.

One of the best alternative insulation solutions which comes to mind is cotton insulation which has become increasingly popular in recent years. It's paper counterparts however have been a bit slower in penetrating and capturing market share.

Excel Building Solutions produces Warmcel which is a great recycled paper insulation you might want to check out; it's actually made from 100% recycled newsprint.

The second part of your question is a bit obscure to me, I am familiar with kraft paper as basically heavy wrapping paper. Kraft paper is usually recyclable as it is made from natural materials, but I am not familiar with an alternative recycled product, except products made from recycled kraft paper products which obviously are better for our planet.

I hope this helps!
