Ines asks: I would like to know what the implications are of Obama's recent announcement to invest over $2 billion of taxpayer money into solar companies to build new power plants.
Hi Ines,
With the latest news of the US Government channeling $2 billion to solar plants and solar power manufacturers, there are both short term and long term implications.
Short term, the US Government is notoriously slow in processing out allocated funds to contractors and consultants. With myriads of red tape, it remains to be seen how quickly these funds would translate to immediate openings for manufacturers who lost their jobs in this recession.
It costs time and money to retrain an ex-GM autoworkers to build energy renewable products like solar panels and wind turbines. Currently, there are tax incentives for employers to hire unemployed workers, so hopefully the companies would prioritize them.
Long term, this is a step in the right direction. If the US is to sustain its own economy by reinforcing its existing and underutilized workforce, additional growth in the renewable energy sector is needed.
These companies who won the contracts from the US Government will use the start-up money to build their businesses, hire and train new employees. Hence, more jobs result in more tax revenue for Local, State and Federal Governments. "Green" works both ways.
Renewable energy still has a way to go in the fossil fuel dominated energy sector, but we should see exponential growth between now and the next decade for solar and wind power.

other content is so deficient that I move on without delay. That is not
the case here. Thanks so much.
