Hi Bennie,

Thank you for your question. Here are a few things you could do:

1) ISSA, the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association, offers educational courses and certifications – ICE, and ISSA Green Cleaning Professional are two that come to mind.

2) USGBC (United States Green Building Council) offers LEED Green Associate and LEED AP (with a designation like Building Design and Construction). These accreditations are much broader than a focus on green cleaning but would provide an excellent foundation from which to approach developing a green janitorial business.

3) Many trade publications have articles and products spotlighting the area of green (Sanitary Maintenance is an example).

4) Green Seal offers a certification for Green Cleaning through its GS 42 Commercial Cleaning Services Standard.

5) Get involved locally through a trade group or local organization –for example your Chamber of Commerce.

6) Seek out current Janitorial Companies to see what they are doing.

This is just a small example of what you could do.
