Green Business Grants: What Type of Money is Available for LEED Designs?

Question:

Tad asks: What type of grant money is available for non-profits for LEED designs? For example, I am doing research for my employer's Envrionmental Sustainablity Grant Committee. We have a project that we are considering providing funding but are also interested in a grant match scenario. The project is a new soccer field complex and the most likely green elements of the design would include a rainwater irrigation system. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Tad,

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a good source as they provide a platform of various national, state and local funding programs specifically targeting green / sustainable projects (building construction, landscape and property development). To be clear, the EPA itself does not provide direct funds and grants for green building projects.

Sample organizations that offer direct funds through loans, grants, and tax credits include the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Enterprise Green Communities and Home Depot Foundation. Don't forget to check the links for state and local government green building programs.

All can be found in the EPA link below:

Good luck!
