Upofloor Oy was established in 1955 in Nokia, Finland. The company was a pioneer in plastic flooring, but is now a full-service flooring provider. Upofloor Oy specializes in vinyl and halogen free flooring.
Upofloor Oy has dedicated significant research and development to producing floors that ensure good indoor air quality and sustainable development. As a result, the company released its Lifeline flooring products, which are free of PVCs and plasticizers, in 2004.
The Lifeline family of flooring products include resilient contract flooring tile, contract sheet flooring, resilient contract sheet flooring, and luxury vinyl tile. The Lifeline products are imported to the U.S. by Altro Floors.
Environmental Benefits of Upofloor Lifeline Flooring
Upofloor Oy’s Lifeline PVC-free resilient flooring was selected by BuildingGreen as one of the top 10 green building products of 2012.
The Lifeline family of flooring products do not contain PVC, plasticizers, phthalates, halogens, chlorine and heavy metals. According to the Technical Research Centre of Finland, the floors contain zero VOCs. As a result, Upofloor claims the products are “practically emission-free”. This makes the products both environmentally friendly and beneficial to occupant health.
Lifeline flooring did not sacrifice quality or durability for its eco-friendly features. The products are classified in Group T, which is the best wear-resistance class. The flooring does not require waxing and rejects dirt, making it easy to clean. It is also fire resistant and not a substrate for bacteria.
Lifeline products are ideal for high-traffic, commercial settings such as hospitals and schools because they are extremely durable, easy to clean, and hygienic.
The Lifeline family of products is Floorscore certified, which means it qualifies for 1 point for Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 4.3: Low-Emitting Materials – Flooring Systems (in the LEED for New Construction rating system).
In the LEED for Existing Buildings: Operation and Maintenance (LEED EB:O+M) rating system, Upofloor Oy’s Lifeline flooring also qualifies for Materials and Resources Credit 3: Sustainable Purchasing – Facility Alterations and Additions. Again, it qualifies because it is Floorscore certified.
