AllEarth Renewables’ AllSun Trackers are unique solar panels that track the sun as it moves across the sky, producing up to 45% more energy than traditional fixed solar panels.
These ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels use a motor and a global positioning system (GPS) to move up, down, east or west with the sun’s rays.
At night, the Tracker moves into a horizontal resting position – this allows snow to fall off the panels. When the sun comes out in the morning, the AllSun Trackers “wake up” and move to meet the sun.
Because of their unique sun-tracking technology, BuildingGreen rated AllSun Trackers as one of the top green building products for 2012.
Solar Trackers: PV for Residential and Commercial Applications
These systems can be used for both residential and commercial applications.
For residential applications, the AllSun Tracker Series 20 uses 20 solar panels to produce about 5,880 kilowatt hours per year.
For commercial applications, the AllSun Tracker Series 24 uses 24 solar panels to produces about 7,728 kilowatt hours per year. Multiple systems can be installed within 50 feet of each other.
The AllSun Tracker system and inverters have a 10-year warranty, and the solar panels themselves have a 25-year warranty.
AllSun Trackers can help a project, whether residential or commercial, to earn points toward LEED certification. According to the LEED for New Construction (NC) rating system, they could help to earn the following credits:
• Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Credit 2: On-Site Renewable Energy (1-7 points):
This credit awards for on-site renewable energy. The number of credits awarded is based on the percentage of the building’s energy costs that the renewable energy system offsets.
• Sustainable Sites (SS) Credit 7.1: Heat Island Effect – Nonroof (1 point):
This credit awards projects for reducing heat island effect by providing shading for the site’s hardscape. Since AllSun Trackers are installed on the ground, they could help to earn this credit.
