DOW Building Solutions and Knight Wall Systems have created an easy-to-install, continuous insulation (CI) system, the DOW-KNIGHT CI-System, which can give your building the thermal efficiency required by ASHRAE 90.1-2007.
The CI-GIRT™ rain screen cavity framing system allows installers to utilize several different types of cladding options, including tile, metal, lightweight stone, stucco and thin brick.
This system gives a building a continuous layer of insulation with very minimal thermal bridging – portions of a wall system that conduct heat between the interior and exterior, often made of metal – ensuring that the insulation performs as designed. This continuous insulation also provides exceptional moisture management, reducing the potential for water damage to the interior and exterior building materials.
The drop-in insulation system eliminates the need for tedious field-fitting and cutting of the insulation, significantly reducing assembly time and labor costs.
Not only does this continuous insulation system enhance a building’s energy efficiency, but it also contains recycled content, helping a project to achieve the following credits and prerequisite in the LEED® for New Construction and Major Renovation rating system:
• Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Prerequisite 2: Minimum Energy Performance – Helps a building meet/exceed requirements outlined in ASHRAE 90.1-2007.
• EA Credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance - Helps a building meet/exceed requirements outlined in ASHRAE 90.1-2007.
• Materials & Resources (MR) Credit 4: Recycled Content – THERMAX™ Exterior continuous insulation contains 14%-29% pre-consumer recycled content, and the steel used in the CI-Girt systems generally contains approximately 25%, (5% pre-, 20% post-consumer).
Depending on the location of your project, this product may also help you qualify for MR Credit 5 – Regional Materials and/or a Regional Priority credit.
