Solar Farms in Florida to Create Green Jobs
National Solar Power, a Florida-based solar energy provider, recently announced a solar farm agreement with Liberty County, Florida. The 100 megawatt system will cost $350 million.
In November 2011, the company also brokered a deal with Hardee County to develop a 200 megawatt solar farm, the second it will have built in the Sunshine State, according to a press release.
National Solar Power had previously announced a similar project in Gadsden County, which is located in the Florida Panhandle. The solar farm in the central-Florida Hardee County will cost $700 million and was approved by the Hardee County Commission.
The company also created of Green Infrastructure Partners, a funding arm that would help finance more solar energy projects. Development is expected to take five years, during which roughly 200 jobs will be created. At least 50 permanent solar energy jobs will also be necessary to operate the solar farms.
"Florida is the new frontier when it comes to solar farm development," said National Solar Power CEO James Scrivener. "We are excited about the opportunity to establish a utility-scale solar farm in Hardee County and the creation of Green Infrastructure Partners."
Professional Certification for Solar Energy Jobs
Florida is not the only state making a push for solar energy development. New Jersey-based solar installer Geoscape Solar also announced in late November 2011 that it would implement a 733 kilowatt solar power system that will cover 75 percent of the energy needs for a local logistics company.
Investments from both the private and public sector are helping to drive solar energy demand, and in turn, create solar energy jobs.
Individuals looking for a career in this renewable energy field can increase their professional credentials through training and certification from leading solar organizations.
The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) provides credentials for photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal installers.
Additionally, the Electronics Technicians Association offers certifications for PV installers and solar thermal professionals.
