On June 4, 2012, Rick Fedrizzi announced that LEED 2012 will now be released mid-2013 - and it's name will be changed to LEED v4 as a result.
In a USGBC list-serve email, Rick Fedrizzi said:
"In response to overwhelming feedback from our members, core LEED users and engaged stakeholders, USGBC announced today that it will delay ballot on LEED 2012 until June 1, 2013. Because of this date change LEED 2012 is being renamed LEED v4."
Fedrizzi said that this is a result of feedback from the LEED community and stakeholders, who have said that they need more time to adjust to and understand the proposed changes.
On the USGBC blog, Fedrizzi also announced that they are committing to a fifth public comment period, which will run from October 2nd, 2012, through December 10th, 2012.
This is primarily so that USGBC can host public forums and education sessions on the new rating system at Greenbuild, the LEED green building conference in November. The conference draws over 20,000 green building professionals each year, so it will allow the USGBC to educate and gain feedback from a large number of stakeholders.
In the meantime, the USGBC will make LEED 2009 registration available for registration for three years.
