Question:

Ken asks: After February 2009, will one have to pass the LEED Green Associate exam in order to qualify to take the tier 2 exam, i.e. LEED Operations and Maintenance, to become a LEED AP+? Or, can one simply take the LEED O&M exam, and become a LEED AP+ by just passing that exam?

Hi Ken:

The answer is yes to the first part of your question and no to the second part.

If you register to take the LEED AP+ O+M exam after Feb 2009 you will automatically take the LEED Green Associate (Tier 1 exam) as part of the exam process (i.e. it's integrated into one testing session with two exams). The examination process for LEED AP+ includes both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 exams.

If for some reason you fail to pass the LEED Green Associate exam, you will have to take both exams again. If you pass the LEED Green Associate exam and fail the LEED AP+ specialty exam (eg. for O+M), you will only have to take the specialty exam (Tier 2) again.

Good luck!

Would I be eligible a lesser credential like GA?

Failed LEED Exam by 2 points

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately if you fail the LEED AP exam this time around (i.e. before the expiration of the LEED v2 exams), you have to take the LEED GA test and pass that to earn the LEED GA credential.

Failing v2.2 and taking v 3 GA

I know the testing fee we pay allows us to take the test three times to pass. f I take the v2.2 before the cutoff and fail the first time, can a reregister as my second test for the Green Associate?
