Michael asks: I passed the LEED AP exam! Now how do I maintain my credential...? I don't want anything to lapse so what are the credential maintenance requirements for new LEED APs? What courses can I take? Also, I have not received my certificate from the USGBC in over 8 weeks... ???
Hi Michael:
Congrats! New LEED APs who earned their credential under LEED CI 2.0 or LEED NC 2.2 and choose to participate the new LEED v3 system must participate in 30 hours of continuing education required every 2 years.
Exactly 6 hours of continuing must be obtained from an approved program specific to the LEED Rating System, credit categories, and LEED updates.
Therefore the remaining 24 hours of continuing education must be from courses focused on other aspects of green building.
New LEED Green Associates are required to take 15 hours of continuing education every 2 years, with 3 hours obtained from an approved program specific to the LEED Rating System, credit categories, and LEED updates.
12 hours of continuing education may be focused on aspects of green building other than the LEED rating system.
LEED CMP Guide
The LEED CMP program is also expected to be flexible to allow credit for other than taking a class or attending a workshop, i.e. a LEED AP or LEED Green Associate may be able to engage in an innovative project or internship involved in green building.
For more information and LEED specific and non-specific fulfillment options, check out this page on LEED CMP.
Congrats again!
