George asks: I work for a Municipality. Therefore, it is quite difficult for me to obtain eligibility for the LEED Associate exam. I've worked on several large scale projects that have made me quite interested in the LEED program.
What direction should I take in order to be eligible for the LEED Associate exam and eventually LEED AP. I prefer online classes because I have a family.
Answer: Hi George, thank you for your question. The best approach for you for eligibility is to take an online LEED GA class, such as this eight hour one. The curriculum is very good and we've received excellent feedback from students who have participated in this online course. The course includes a 60 day license during which time it may be "attended" or viewed as many times as you like. Also, it may be watched in any order and at your own pace so you can learn how you want to learn.
The course comes with a certificate of completion upon successfully finishing the course. You must submit this certificate to the GBCI as part of their requirements for LEED GA candidates.
Once you've passed the LEED GA exam, you can start preparing for your LEED AP exam. When you sign up for the LEED AP exam with the GBCI, you will not have to retake the LEED GA portion of the exam, only the specialty portion that you choose for your LEED AP credential.
Good luck!
