Question: Jerrod asks: I am a Territory Sales Manager that continues to work with contractors of LEED projects. We manufacture metal roofing and siding which qualify towards LEED. I would like to become a better informed resource for my customers.
Would I be qualified for the LEED Green Associate and is this my best option for my goal?
Thank you for your email.
Based on what you described, the LEED Green Associate credential might be a good idea for your work, and is definitely the first place to start. It’s the first level credential and it’s a requirement to pass the LEED Green Associate exam before becoming an AP.
FWIW, according to SimplyHired.com, salaries for Green Associates averages $75,000 in New York and $85,000 in San Francisco. A salary search with just the term “LEED” in it, indicates $98,000 in New York and $112,000 in San Francisco.
You may be qualified already with your job. See here for a good overview on earning the credential.
Also, if you are concerned at all about being eligible to take the exam, you can do so with a variety of inexpensive online training (instead of a traditional class).
Let me know if you have any additional questions.
