Question: Jerrod asks: I am a Territory Sales Manager that continues to work with contractors of LEED projects. We manufacture metal roofing and siding which qualify towards LEED. I would like to become a better informed resource for my customers.

Would I be qualified for the LEED Green Associate and is this my best option for my goal?

Answer:

Hi Jerrod,

Thank you for your email.

Based on what you described, the LEED Green Associate credential might be a good idea for your work, and is definitely the first place to start. It’s the first level credential and it’s a requirement to pass the LEED Green Associate exam before becoming an AP.

FWIW, according to SimplyHired.com, salaries for Green Associates averages $75,000 in New York and $85,000 in San Francisco. A salary search with just the term “LEED” in it, indicates $98,000 in New York and $112,000 in San Francisco.member_gray150

You may be qualified already with your job. See here for a good overview on earning the credential.

Also, if you are concerned at all about being eligible to take the exam, you can do so with a variety of inexpensive online training (instead of a traditional class).

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
